Each Repeated Reading of the Gita, Things Become More Clear

By :
Bhakta David

Dear Sridhara-syama dasa
Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I am very happy and encouraged by your letter received today. This time of lockdown is challenging such that there is no movement from our cells. Food is scarce and showers only every few days. I was concerned at the outset that you might make an empty trip and wanted some way to notify you but certainly by now you know to call before coming to this unpredictable place.

Blessed be Mr. Prabhupada
Devotees, greetings, be blessed, and blessed be Mr. Prabhupada. He really was a gifted man of God. (…) I got your beautiful magazine today. I reat it and put the pictures on my wall. I have 7 pictures of Krsna on my walls. I am just doing my time, one day at a time. II chant on my beads every day. I am a vegetarian and all my food goes to Lord Krsna.

I whispered the mantra in the ear of a friend
Dear Bhakti-lata dasi, thank you for your beautiful letter. I read everything you sent. I’m chanting the maha-mantra, and last night I whispered it in the ear of a friend I was going to AA with. I’ve been incarcerated 24 years, 10 months. I come up for parole next year.
I’ve been on the spiritual path in here for almost

Appreciation of IPM

IPM can make a life changing difference in a prisoner’s life
“Please know that the work you are doing is so very significant. It can make a life changing difference in a prisoner’s life. These teachings are so powerful. Just reading this material seems to elevate my consciousness. How much more so, practicing and applying the principles?
I am so grateful that you folks are still able to help.”

Chanting Helps me Stay Centered
“I like to chant and I chant 4 rounds. Chanting helps me stay centered. This is such a nice service you are doing for Krsna by writing to others.”

Thank You for the Books
“Hare Krsna! I hope this finds you and yours in bright spirit and doing well. Thank you for the books, Chanting Hare Krsna and The Definitive Guide to Practicing KC in Prison, and especially for How to give a good class pamphlet. I’m excited about the new chapel. We have it wired with surround sound; we’re almost finished! More later.” (The chapel is the only place where inmates can view the Prabhupada DVDs IPM send them. They also gather in groups to have Krsna conscious programs.)

Thanks to Your Help, This is Finally Possible
"Bhakta James and I watched "The Hare Krsna People" on the "Your Ever Well-Wisher" DVD. James really liked seeing that. For almost 2 years I've promised him DVDs that show he and I aren't the only people in this world who worship Krsna. Thanks to your help, this is finally possible. Thank you so much.
I was moved from E Dorm to B, which has three times as many

Preaching in Prison

Helping an inmate to read Bhagavad-gita
2-2012 “A little update on myself. I have been housed in a dorm with an inmate who had kept a Gita in his locker for years, trying to read it several times but never making it through. Well, he saw me with my copy one day and asked me if I knew anything about the book. I told him yes and now we have discussions about it almost every day. The opportunity to preach on such a regular basis has really enlivened m Krsna consciousness and I’m so glad Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai give me these opportunities to preach.”
Bhakta Carl Sheppard

I would be overjoyed to meet with a devotee face-to-face
“Our chaplain seems to be very helpful, and I’m sure he would be open to any volunteer devotees who wanted to be of assistance. A service or study could be held on a weekly or monthly basis. There is also an evening mentor meeting once a month where a volunteer can meet with an inmate in the chapel for 2 ½ hours; that would also be an option, it all depends on the availability of the devotee. I want to learn all I can about Krishna, and would be overjoyed to meet with a devotee face-to-face who would help guide me. I would be eternally grateful.”

The BTGs have been enthusiastically received
“The BTGs are kept hidden in the chapel and not put out for anyone to take. So…each Friday morning I get a stack of them and take them out to the yard to give to the guys. The BTGs have been enthusiastically received. I make sure everyone knows they are welcome to come to the chapel on Friday mornings.

We’ll read from the Krsna Book
"Maybe next week people will come. It would be fortunate for anyone coming to hear about Krsna Janmastami. We’ll read from the Krsna Book on the Friday preceding and after, on the birth of Lord Krsna, born in an prison…”
Bhakta Gerald Niles

I am still chanting 8 rounds
“Yes, I am still chanting 8 rounds. Not that I count it, but my new routine has also slightly increased my chanting when I ride the cardio bike. Forty minutes of maha mantra while riding the bike; no beads, just “mumbling” as the guy who is on the stair-stepper next to me says. As a bonus, he now says “Hare Rama” to me when we pass each other on the tier, so he’s chanting, sort of.
Allen just came at my door. I gave him the picture you just sent because he had none and I told him I passed his contact info to you. He is very sincere. I give him the BTGs to read before we donate them to the chapel library.”

Not a day goes by in here without me letting a few people know about Krsna
“I passed the newsletter to several other inmates who had never even heard the names “Hare Krsna”. So I am happy to say that IPM is succeeding in starting conditioned souls on the path of Krsna bhakti, thus saving them from the greatest type of fear. Not a day goes by in here without me letting a few people know about

Appreciation of BTG

I read all the BTGs
“Well, I finally got around to reading all those BTGs you sent me. They really are interesting and I like them a lot.”
John Paul McGowen
Abilene, Texas

BTG is the best magazine in the world
“Thank you very much for all the times you have helped me to receive what is to me THE best magazine in the world, I mean I have learned more now and have a clear understanding of what is going on, not only in my mind but I feel it in my soul too.”
Mark Flanigan
Susanville, CA

BTG is Vital to Keep My Sanity in Prison
12-9-11
"I can't express how vital BTG is in helping me maintain my sanity in this environment. I set up my makeshift altar on my bed in this 50-men dormitory-style barrack almost daily, time permitting. I line up photos of my spiritual master, Their Lordships Sri-Sri Radha Nila-Madhava (from Houston) and Baladeva, Subhadra & Jagannatha (from Philadelphia). Then I lay out copies of 2-3 BTGs, opened to harinama photos or articles, BG, etc.
I rise around 1:30-2:00 am, clean up, and then start on my japa. All the men can see me do this daily, and a few ask questions or sometimes make sarcastic or crude comments behind my back. So be it. Some I can help, some are beyond help!"
Bruce Kirwan
Pine Bluff, AR

Postcard
"Hello, prabhu, just wanted to thank you for the BTGs. They mean the world to me. Haribol! With respectful obeisances, your servant, Kalki Das"

I read and re-read every copy several times
"I received the Jan/Feb 2003 issue of Back to Godhead, which was sent to me and I wanted to write and thank you and everyone else who made it possible for me to receive a new issue.
I have been a member of ISKCON for about two years now and some of my pen pals have sent me back issues of BTG and I thoroughly enjoy the magazine. I would subscribe to the magazine, but I just don't have the funds available, so being able to receive a fresh copy is a treat. Then again, any copy I receive is new and fresh to me and I read and re-read every copy several times, before I set them out for others to read, in the hopes that maybe others will join me in the quest for Krsna realization."
Bhakta Charles

Dear Bhakti-lata,
Hare Krsna!
All glories to Srila Prabhupada! All praise to IPM!
Please accept my humble respects and obeisances.

Thank you for your letter dated 1-10-11. There really is no way for me to fully express my appreciation for your time and especially patience in writing me, answering my questions, and providing me with so much good KC information. Your letters are always filled with so much information and are very much looked forward to. Your love of Krsna and the strength of your convictions are evident and I feel especially blessed by the Lord to be in your association. I’m sure this seva can be very frustrating, at times, especially when the same questions are asked, again and again. If I do this, please accept my apologies.
First, let me say that I did indeed receive the very nice calendar. Also I received the Caitanya-caritamrta, and the copy of On Chanting Hare Krsna. This is FULL of good, sweet nectar, a real asset to my japa. In fact, it answered a question I had on my mind the same day I got it in the mail!

Dear Bhakti-lata, Hare Krsna!
Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Hope all is going well for you. I’m still here in segregation but I’m safe and that’s what’s important. [My present] cellie is a very negative person but at least he’s not a bully. Practicing KC has gotten me to a point that I don’t even hate those

9-4-10: With KC, I Can Embrace My Situation

Dear Bhakti-lata, Hare Krsna!

All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
Please accept my humble respects and obeisances.

I hope everything is well for you, mataji. My KC grows and flourishes with our correspondence and your letters are truly worth the wait.

Well, I never imagined it would be so difficult to practice my KC here [a new institution]. Chaplain H. hates KC. He more or less alluded to the fact that he was going to have me sent to the hole [solitary] if I persisted in trying to practice KC in the chapel. Chaplain R. is much more enlightened. It’s been so discouraging and my KC has suffered as a result.
